5 finalists were shortlisted after the correspondence tour; their works were publically performed by “Moscow Soloists” Chamber Ensemble and other musicians in the Sochi Organ Hall.
The final of the competition began with the “Dedication to Yuri Bashmet” performance for the quintet in three parts, each of which was written by different authors, participants of the Music Academy, which was held earlier.
At the III International Composers Competition it was decided not to award the first prize.
Denis Khorov received the second prize for the Scherzo for Piano Quintet.
Denis Khorov is the winner of the VIII International Young Composers Competition of the “Orpheus” Radio. He is a postgraduate student of the Moscow Conservatory (Professor Yuri Vorontsov class). He collaborates with the Volkov Theatre (“The Thunderstorm” after A. Ostrovsky, directed by D. Azarov,), the “Stanislavsky” Electrotheatre (“The Idiot” after F. Dostoevsky, directed by K. Kozinsky), the “Boyar Chambers” (opera “The Snow Maiden” directed by D. Azarov) and the Gogol-Center (“Who Lives Well in Russia after N. Nekrasov, directed by K. Serebrennikov).
The third prize was shared between Daria Slavnikova for the Piano Quartet and Alexei Popkov for the Quintet for Strings and Piano.
Laureate diplomas were awarded to Tikhon Khrennikov Jr. and Kirill Arkhipov.
Professor Alexander Tchaikovsky is the chairman of the jury. Maestro Yuri Bashmet, Professor Juris Karlsons (Latvia), Professor Krzysztof Meyer (Poland), music manager Patrick de Klerk (Belgium), composer Atsuhiko Gondai (Japan), head of the composition department at the St. Petersburg Conservatory Anton Tononov and composer Kuzma Bodrov also were on a jury panel.
